Free Lensing

Watched a video of YouTube last night about Free Lensing - essentially you take the lens off the camera, hold it in front and move it about a bit. You end up with very shallow DoF shots with strange angles a LOT of flair if you're not careful and some interesting (hopefully) images.

The Pentax is amazing for this as it has Focus Peeking so you can see when the sharpness is hit and where it is. Had a wander this morning before work and processed these on the iPad.

tried this a while ago but my d5100 and my old d70 wont operate with the lens removed

Kev - put the Nikon bodies into manual mode and they will fire without a lens on.

Managed to get a perfect shallow DoF and pin sharp focus on this shot - no way I could have got this with my lenses used conventionally.

Phil if you have another brand of lens it will be perfect for your Canon as they have a deeper body than most so getting infinity focus will be easier.

very good, I'll have to give this ago myself - BP do you know if Nikons 'live view' works without a lens fitted?
