Fitting the Macro gear, then not finding any exciting Insects or bugs can be extremely frustrating.......this happened to me last night....the garden was like a fridge, not only that, a gale was blowing...this year I have only spotted three Bumble Bees so far:

As a standby, I keep various, logs, sheets of old bark and other flat things in various dark corners, all lying directly on the soil....even on the coldest days I can usually find something lurking there........mainly Wood Lice, difficult subjects because they can be very shiny:

Here I manage to catch one attempting to hide inside an open sided tunnel made by a wood borer, it shows an interesting side-view.

The other shot, is of a huge, dead Hornet I keep in a jar....a neighbour caught and killed it as it was attempting to build a nest inside his tiny shed last year...normally he would leave a hornet alone because, unless provoked they tend to avoid us:

Here, I had fun shooting through the curved, not so clean jar....but just look at those incredibly strong mandibles, just right for making wood andpaper pulp for nest building:

Again, my Basin-Diffuser was used with a SONY28/100 Macro lens:

Amazing close-ups, Fuji.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who keeps dead things in pots or jars. I have a frog or toad which obviously got dried up when the weather was to hot one year.

He has a floppy leg, but I have visions of one day trying a shot with him amongst dried brown leaves. (one day)
