my extremely shy song thrush took up residence right at the very bottom of the garden about two months ago. we only catch fleeting glimpses of him, he even seems scared of the other birds. i have tried every kind of bird food i know of to try and coax him out a little more but he just runs over nicks a bit of grub and then dissapears with it. where he has chose to live seems strange though, as the cats are in and out of there all day long, and even when i snatched this pic two of the cats were in the garden.....i do hope this tolerating of each other continues...!

lol john..

and i still have the two robins in the garden...fatty and skinny...

Welcome to birding... it's fun when you actually start to study them, you can often identify individuals from their various habits etc.

i need some new birds though.....more variety

I still can't believe I got photos of a Bittern, I don't actually know what the rarest birds are in the British Isles but Bitterns must rank pretty high on that list. Some estimates say about 75 breeding pairs. You must get out of the garden and take some binoculars and find new species.

great pictures Annie, the detail in no 2 is very good indeed. However i personally prefer no 1 as i like the way the bird is framed in the picture and the natural colours around him/her just seems to compliment him ... as you say they are shy birds and no 1 picture shows this better i feel :)
