Further to my earlier macro post of Tiny-tiny Springtails on Slime Mould, I returned to the site with my 2.8/100 Macro lens, here are a couple of crops from the set.

The blue reflections may be as a result of me using an LED torch because I hadn't attached my full Macro gear with its dedicated diffused Flash.....The old oak post is a fair way from home so I utilised he powerful torch:

Good stiff Fuji, how long are these little critters?

Check your spell checker Bill

They aren't much larger than the head of a pin, difficult to see with the naked eye....YouTube has a great video from David Attenborough on Springtails...worth watching if you are interested.

They are some of the most numerous crustaceans in the world, we pass millions by every day without noticing, they can stand very cold temperatures but must alway be in the damp (like Woodlice) or they can't breathe.

Well worth searching for under fallen leaves and in and on damp places:

I left a message on here via my tablet last night, I can only assume the the internet cut off just as I was sending.

The detail of the little insects is amazing in these shots Fuji.

Hi, Nanny,

Many thanks for you positive comment......but, as far as I know Springtails are crustaceans rather than insects, which is why they can only survive in very damp places or they wouldn't be able to breathe.

I have posted two informative lins above.
