Brixham

Love Brixham, I have a good mate who has lived there since he moved from Coventry in the 1960s, he used to erect a tent for myself and my small family.....so short of money were we, I used to do all the cooking on a painter's paraffin  blow-lamp buried in the ground so that the fierce flame acted like a regular gas burner.

I was a very keen Artist then too, I used to be up at the crack of dawn, then down to the harbour with my oil pastels, board and special paper.....I still have some of those drawings; I used to get back to the tent, just as my good lady was getting our two children ready for a day at the seaside.

You can never get bored in Brixham, it remains a very busy fishing port, with a bustling  harbour and fish auction, plus plenty of opportunity to take to the sea in a selection of pleasure craft, including three old sailing trawlers.

Imaginge, my horror, one summer, when I lost my wallet on the first day, we had had a fish and chip lunch on the harbour.....then walked until we decided on ice creams.....it was then that I missed it......the wallet contained all my holiday money, and return tickets....we were frantic with worry, two kids, no transport, no money.............We went to the police station, then retraced our steps, asking folk if they had seen it.

The Angels must have been looking out for us that day, because, on reaching the Harbour again, I discovered my untouched wallet exactly where it had fallen out of my back pocket......the colour of the leather, had exactly matched the rust of the stack of Otter Boards I had been sitting on to eat my chips....very close to where you took your photograph.

We have many happy memories of Brixham.....thank you for posting.

Lobster pots always appear to want to be photographed but seldom do they work out when you get home and look at the results, but this one is really good, certainly the angle of choice plays a big part and the person with scarf is another add that to the writing a squares on the tarmac taking the viewer through to the houses it al adds up to a pleasing picture, nice one Bill--,

I think Ron is correct about the ferry Colin.   You can have a good long stroll from the town up to the marina and back. We couldnt get into the fish market, and on our visit we saw only 2 boats moving. Whether it being st patricks day played a part or the fact it was mid to late afternoon. Had a good chat with an old boy who volunteers as a pirate on the Golden Hind, he was a pro underwater photographer. I bet he would have some stories to tell!  It has a good atmosphere and us worth a visit if you can
