Grey Heron

On my way into town to pay some bills, I saw this Grey Heron stood atop of a pillar that used to carry a railway line across an old mill lodge. I see them quite a lot here but never usually this close. I was surprised it didn't fly away...

Lovely crisp images RW... I   bet you were just willing him to show you at least one foot ... obviously your vantage point  didn't allow  that anyway ... You must be pretty damned please with that set  though ... I would be  ...  just goes to prove the reason we always go everywhere armed with a camera  is ... just in case moments like these arise .;)

Thanks Clicker, yes I am pleased with them. I only had my EF 24-105mm f4 L with me, so they were cropped. I very rarely go out without my camera for that exact reason... It's the first time I've seen one sat on these pillars - which are about 15ft high, I'm really surprised it didn't fly away as there were people walking past...

Thanks Chrissy, yes I always take my camera with me, you never know what you might see - as was the case with the heron in these images.

Me too ...in fact ... my camera sits in its bag on the hall table  and it's over my shoulder before I pick up  my handbag  car keys and iPhone when I 'm on my out ... .... Not that  you have a handbag  to carry  RW ....
