I am not sure about this one. Whilst I enjoy using Photomatix myself, I can't help but feel that it has been taken a little too far within the software. But this is only my opinion. I really do like the composition. :)

I can see where both Kev and Chris are coming from Rw... there is a lot to like about the image .. I would have been tempted after getting this shot to try one with a pebble thrown in the foreground to add more interest . Course you could add it in Photoshop ;)

It  seems too me  you were trying to get a  perfect mirror image... I think that may have worked better in landscape mode ... In Portrait I think that idea doesn't work quite as well ... but ... it's just a personal take on it ...;)

I  like that better RW...  You've  tpulled it back a bit in the HDR   and the crop improves it for me ... plus you cloned out the  twig floating in the foreground ...:yes;)

Thanks Clicker, yes it was a bit distracting, I probably should clone out the specks in the bottom left too...

Thanks Chris. The first edit (not the one I posted first) I did was late Friday after a couple of glasses of wine, when I looked at it the next day I thought 'Oh my, that's a bit of an assult to the eyes..', so did another edit.

  • 1 month later...

I had a water reflection image and it has lots of 'debris' in the water like your lake. It was very time consuming but worth the effort, loosing the debris (clone stamp/spot healing) to crispen it and perfect it. I love your composition and processing however. This is my before & after, so you can 'get the drift'

had a quick play with yours (only ten mins so it could be done much better with more time) - what do you think???

Thanks Chris and Clicker. I never thought to try a landscape as it's a fairly narrow lake.

I've have tried another edit and crop:

Ryewolf may I suggest you  crop it a tad more off the bottom to equal the cloud in the sky and lake - adds a little balance to the pic.
