My pics are pretty meagre compared to the cracking shots in the Biggin Hill thread, but in my defence, I was using the 'long' end of a 24-70mm portrait lens, so mine are very heavily cropped.

This was the first air show I've ever been to, but now I'm hooked!  Really must start saving for a longer lens.

Might be "meagre" to you but not to me - you've got good focus, easily sharp enough, pleasing composition and (most important in my book) good exposure on the shadow areas.  I'm impressed with the 24-70mm lens and - pardon me - but amused with the choice of lens too LOL!!

Best thing is the results are super :)

Thank you for your kind words, Edward  :-)

With the VW sprint days I do twice a year, and determined to go to more air shows now, I'm going to save up for a longer lens, though probably not a Nikon this time, as I wouldn't use it often enough to justify the cost.

Fuij - did you go?  There was a chap there who looked like you, complete with lovely silver curls  :-)

Ideally I would like the Nikon 70-200 F2.8 to go with my 24-70 F2.8.  But practically, as I only do motor sport and - from now on - air shows, I'd probably only use it a handful of times a year, so may settle for one of the lesser brands at half the price.  I don't like to compromise, but can't justify £1500+ sadly, so will have to compromise.

But it will be a year before I've finished paying for my camera and lens, so have plenty of time to look around and read reviews.  Might even look at up to 300mm, though I have to take into account the weight, as I don't have very steady hands.

I too think you have done well with the lens, I use a Sigma 70-300 on my old D3000, I'm pleased with what I can achieve with it for its meagre price of £99, although a bit on the heavy side and no built in stabilisation.
