I was out in manchester doing a fashion shoot for someone where I came across this lovely girl, I plucked up the courage to ask her for a picture (fujiesque) she agreed...

I admire your courage to do this - while I've done a little candid street photography there's no way I could ask a stranger for a photograph.  Might make good mono images too.

I love the portrait, but think next time you could ask her to move around a bit so the background is less intrusive? But kudos to you for asking - I couldn't do it.

Both are very good, and well done for asking for a shot.
The background is nicely blurred and I also like the detached look in the 2nd shot.
 I quite like the casual look with the coat over her arm, but if you want to emphasise her face, I think you could get away with cropping.

You could also quite easily select all the background using a freehand selection tool, a bit of feathering on the selection and use a guassion blur on the background, that would blur out the background even more.
