Yes!

Characters like this can be found in most towns and cities, colourful, but victims of substance abuse or mental handicap or illness.............if invited ( as you were to take a pic I might, but I would never take advantage like many Street Photographers do.

The guy whose portrait I posted a few weeks ago, was sitting quietly on a bench contemplating the world, when I chanced upon him.......I could see the photo potential immediately.......I offered a pound for permission, he very politely refused stating that he wasn't begging and didn't drink......but I could take his portrait.

As I did so, I had quite a long conversation with him, at this point a lady gave him a large cup of coffee, then I popped into Gregg's for a bag of eats, he accepted these with thanks.

I can't imagine that he was travelling and sleeping rough for pleasure, but he didn't look dirty of unkempt, just wrapped in layers of clothing plus a huge haversack and sleeping bag.....members on here commented on how good his teeth were.

I would have loved to have known his story.......perhaps he will pass through again one day.

To be honest, if he hadn't have asked it would never have crossed my mind to take his photograph. I'd stopped, while I was on the way to the train station, to take a picuture of a tree that had fairy lights on them and was just looking at the image on the screen, when he came up to me. He asked what I'd been taking a picture of, so I showed him the tree, he asked me to take his picture, I said ok, we hugged, I took a quick couple of shots, showed him the last one (the one posted), he wished me good night then walked off down the street.

He didn't seem to be homeless or living rough.
