At last I have found the time to try out the new camera.... Love the fact that hellebores  come out to play so soon  after the  winter frosts have been  keeping most of the garden colours at bay..

thanks  JH... I have just downloaded the first batch of pics taken... so I am still looking at the results ... ...on initial  perusal... things  seem  ok... need to get a benchmark on a few Auto settings  I think   to see how i adjust to my style and way of seeing  things.. It's been a hectic few weeks with domestic life so looking forward to some  camera time  for me ... ;)

I just  set it to Intelligent Auto +  mode for the first batch of pics  Judy .... to get an idea of what the default  settings would produce as it  detects if it's Portrait, Scenery, Macro, Food ? Baby, Sunset , Night Scenery etc

I think It will be a while before I feel I'm driving it intuitively  though...  :hope:

That's not a bad idea. Panasonic's 'Intelligent Auto' has won quite a lot of praise, and rarely lets you down if you need an emergency quick setting.

Thanks Chris ... It doesn't come naturally to hand over the reins to Intelligent Auto plus mode   but I need to establish  a feel for how it copes with a lot of situations before  I take control of aspects, maybe one at a time,  to see what differences I can make to the final outcome . Seems daft not to try out all the intelligent mode results  after paying  for it !! I'm off for a break later in the year  to the Lakes in Northern Italy  so I want to be proficient with it by then. Getting to old to lug all the lenses around with my  other cameras.

It's why I bought my current (Panasonic) camera - with 'old school' separate dedicated dials for aperture, shutter speed, and EV, plus manual switches for aspect ratio and focus modes - I can decide to shoot exactly how I want, and there is also an Intelligent Auto button for emergencies (haven't used it yet!). There IS a dial on the back with a 4-way operation for WB, focus points, drive modes, and ISO, plus a couple of Fn buttons, so I can take advantage of modern tech too.
