Just a few metres from our frontdoor we have a vigorous Banksia Rose, and we recently spotted a very fragile nest in there. Here is the Rose, so you know how thick it is:

The birds are Crested Pidgeons, native to this area. Here is one, not a very good picture, but just to show you:

Today I heard feeding noises from the nest and was lucky enough to catch this:

Then he dozed off, and in this you can see the parent bird sitting next to him, and keeping an eye on me!:

We'll be keeping watch on him.

What fascinating looking birds........perhaps our Wood Pigeons and Town Pigeons wouldn't be so despised if the grew crests like yours.........As soon as I refill the bird table, I bet we get at least four pigeons fighting to first to eat.....eventually a small flock of Jackdaws, single Magpie and an odd Carrion Crow may chase them off......the little Robins, Sparrows and Blue Tits fly in later to pick up all the tiny stuff greedy big beaks miss.

I love to watch them.......a very literal......Pecking Order....is created every morning in winter.

Thanks all. We have discovered that there are now two little ones in the nest. We think this is the second batch. The parents sat on the nest for a couple of weeks, but then we had that awful electrical storm. the nest was then abandoned for a few days, then they came back, and this is the result!

Annie, we do have what you refer to as sky rats here, but mainly in metro and urban areas.
