A cheeky youngster........

We have a very cheeky young Magpie around - one of 5, and he trotted around very close to me yesterday, as I put out the birdseed and bread. He even sang me a song!  You can tell he is young because his adult feathers have only just come through, and you can see some 'feather stalks' around his beak.

BRILLIANT! Dee......

Love Magpies, I used to have one as a pet, they become very attached and will follow you everywhere.

Lots of food and patience should do it because he/she is still young and trusting.

I also had a pet Rook for a year......my son is a Tree Surgeon.......he rescued this one as. Chick from a felled nest, as you can see.....it was a bundle of fun.

Thanks Fuji and JMP. Fuji that one is fun!!!! Judy, don't think our Magpies are quite as aggressive as yours over there, We do occasionally see territorial disputes, but in general they are OK

It has been an interesting season this year - we are the driest we have ever been for over ten years, and yet there have been two batches of most of our local birds. Survival technique perhaps -  lets get the numbers up?
