This was a smallish one, so I actually put my 21mm extension tube and still cropped it a little bit to get rid of what you can see in the second shot taken at 2:1 magnification...
 
I used the diffused ringflash ( Version 1 Beta... ;) )

The detail in these is incredible .....the diffuser has improved things greatly too.

You must have been close to the fly with the 21 and that lens

All I would have got would have been the leaf as the fly would have flown

 

 

As much as I dislike fly photos that top picture is one hell of an eye grabber!
