Although this kind of thing is not something I do normally I did have a go some time back., these painterly images were created using  Photomatix Pro5 software. I'm not sure what you folks will make of them as I was only playing about really...

I've done stuff like that in the past.  Whilst Photomatix is meant for creating HDR from multiple exposures, you can get interesting results by just using it to tonemap a single raw file.  Some of the presets are horrible of course but these work very well - particularly the thatched cottage and the tower.

Yes I agree with Gareth... I think they have a place in our portfolio... I ve seen your Church street in Ledbury  before I’m sure.  I just feel it’s a very satisfying way of extending an alternative feel to an image . I like all of them ... particularly the Broadway tower image .

I think everyone tries HDR at some point, then moves on. Tower pic is nice not sure about the others to bright for me John.
