Based at Spangadelan in Germany was over in the UK at Lakenheath whilst the runway was being re-laid This one amongst several others decided to go to the Loop and he was just under the sound barrier as he passed us, He came round the corner (known as The Spur) used reheat and sped up and over the pass the fuel not burnt we were literally eating out of the air for the next 10 mins, We assumed he needed the burners on to kick the back round as he came thru to fast.  Fluff as we call the moisture usually appears when pulling high G corners here he is no cornering just flying strait this type of Fluff forms over and under the wings when they get close to the sound barrier eventually it forms a circle as they go thru the barrier but only seen at low level and i assume when its humid

I’ve been to the loop ... just stayed for a couple of hours in passing whilst on a break a few miles away but it wasn’t a flying day  with poor weather . Another thing on the bucket list...   I’d be interested in what lens and settings used in your catch of this F16.

Awesome ....

Thanks Clicker this was taken on the top shelf at Bwlch my main Looping gear is a 7D2 with a Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM MK11 if the light get really poor i switch bodies with a 6D My wife uses a 7D 1 with EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6IS USM MK1

If you look closely at the panel below the pilot you can see how many sorties he has done when weapons are used

Its a fair bit quieter now up there as the RAF frontliners dont use it now so i go up the Lakes and have always followed them thru Scotland, Military aviation is my genre followed by wildlife and landscapes

If anyone needs any advice about visiting the loop feel free to ask ive been going there for the last 10 or so years

Settings are generally Manual mode with exposure set to plus 2/3 stop ISO auto and shutter speed is usually around 1/1600 for fast jets and 1/160 for props. I do vary shutter speed to cope with the available light and i often go off tangent and do silly things like fast jets sometimes as low as 1/40 to create a real sense of speed IE the strikemaster ive posed up in another thread. I also do these silly shutter speeds with Propped plane, Helos and ospreys to create imens prop blur and full circles as we call it will post some up one day

Nicely caught Mark, I often see images like this from The Loop on another forum, so always interesting to hear how the images are captured.

Thank You Ryewolf

Thanks for that Monkey ...it's always good to learn new tricks.... thanks for sharing that information with us ....I hope to go in the Autumn again ....

Be aware the RAF front liners do not go thru now, you might get the odd Helo run thru one part or odd Herc in one section There also hasnt been any foreign stuff thru since the ban either, The only air force actually still using the Loop are the USAF all the rest inc USAF are now using the Lakes and Scotland a lot more hence my 10 days in Keswick next month

Its a long story but all RAF frontliners where banned back end last year so they all moved to less popular areas to do there training IE Lakes and Scotland (im often up around Aviemore and see them whenever im there) I think the ban has been lifted but as there is no Tornadoes in service now and Typhoons didn't visit that often they preferred the Lakes. Hercs and Helos have been seen transiting small parts of The Loop but they are not like they used to be and the A400M hasn't been seen since the ban. Also The Red Arrows who used it quite often havent been thru since that wonderful day last June When i was presented with 29 passes of them thru out the day

Don't let me put you off the USAF do still go thru with F15 Hercs and the Osprey;s but its not a daily thing so enjoy the scenery and if anything flies thru its a bonus

There is also Ogwen Valley on the A5 near to Snowdon that busier as well nowadays
