OK Paul...thanks for the tips. I shall have dig my tripod out from where ever I hid it, thats if the storms do appear! What if there is lightning but it's in the daylight? Would that be impossible to get a snap of?

Thanks Phil and Chris...I understand using the bulb setting, and I did wonder if it would take loads of shots.

So, they are forecasting some pretty good storms to be around the UK over the coming weekend. Would it be possible for any of you proper photographers to give some advice as to how to get a picture of lightning? In simple English please, remember it's me who does not understand the techie talk. Would I need to find my tripod? HS50 or Canon? If it's the canon which lens?...I only have three, the 70-300, 50mm, and the 18-55. Should I use the cable release thing? Any help would be appreciated...
