    POTW 25/11/2012

Huge congratulations Blackwolf.........Buzzards are a very difficult capture .......You did exceptionally well here. FUJI
  3. Hi. Look at this.... End time: 29 Nov 2012 15:20:56 GMT iPhone/iPad URL: MUSLIN VOILE CURTAIN FABRIC IN 10 COLOURS! 150cm PURE MUSLIN FABRIC MUSLIN CLOTH Browser URL: MUSLIN VOILE CURTAIN FABRIC IN 10 COLOURS! 150cm PURE MUSLIN FABRIC MUSLIN CLOTH ALL I DID WAS TO PUT.........MUSLIN BROWN .....INTO EBAY SEARCH......there's lots of it....very cheap too........ Many, many moons ago, I used to help fit exhibition stands with muslin ceilings, I bet I've stapled up miles and mies of the stuff. FUJI
  4. Right! Annie.......Grainy much of my future work will be......just to satisfy my own curiosity and skills as a Street Photographer. FUJI
  5. It was a ......Ring Flash.....won on eBay about three years ago......not the ring light that I purchased via eBay ....Buy it Now.....fairly recently. Boy? You have a good memory? ;-) Ring flashes do work but just give an all round flat light, ideal for dentists and those macro shooters who want featureless, shadowless shots of insects etc.......not for me.....which s why it went. Other Members may wish to shoot me down? FUJI
  6. I recorded the William Klein documentary last night.........Fascinating stuff.....what a photographer? What did I learn?.........that gritty noisy shots that many despise now are almost worshipped by the Art community.......that Street Photography, is better......done ....IN YOUR FACE .....rather than from a distance........He used a telephoto for much if his fashion work, being almost out of sight if his models, they did almost their own thing amongst the general public whilst he was shooting.......He seemed to have a ....Nifty-Fifty lens on his old Film Leica for most if the time during the program....... Very strange then, that if I post a noisy grainy shot......I just get told ....." It's Noisy, use anti noise software"......we live in a funny old world. ....Like he recent David Bailey documentary it s an absolute MUST......catch it on BBC iPlayer as soon as you can. FUJI
  7. John......from what I learned after winning one on eBay was that unless you are a dentist who wants flat shadowless shots of teeth or odd items....... I frankly wouldn't bother....... They make things look flat and uninteresting in my opinion......I resold it on eBay soon afterwards. Instead you should save your dosh for something else photographic......then, if you want exciting lighting, or shadowless pics, but a few cheap LED torches, the ones with the very powerful Daylight LEDs......look back through my posts and you will see my experiments with light painting.........much more fun and very challenging. If you are still ken, why not try to borrow one, so you can see first hand what it can do? FUJI
  8. A huge THANK YOU! all......the restoration of my personal Workspace cured it......it took ages to sort....all very frustrating and annoying: Phil....if I press SHIFT/PRT/SCRN I just get the pic in the window........if I Press ALT SCR/PRT/SCRN I get Powerpoint!...never have worked screen print out on my Desktop ;-( FUJI
  9. For some time now I have happily opened Photoshop CS3 to utilise my favoured technique of processing and selective sharpening via the use of soft brushes and layers. This way I can apply a targeted variety of contrast, saturation, or sharpness etc using a new layer mask each time. I create a new layer by using the workplace on the RH side of the screen to drag the pic down to the new layer symbol.....I then go to curves, to choose exactly where contrast needs to be increased or decreased..........I then make the layer black for working on. As a base I set the Airbrush on normal, choose the brush size, opacity and flow to suit what I want when I have altered the parts if the layer chosen, I flatten it, to perform the next operation and so on until finished. As in Phils Tutorial post recently: This usually works like a dream.......but.......This morning, I had just completed one photograph and opened the next one......and now, no matter what I try to do the original shot doesn't change, the layer I make and prepare is there but any changes attempted just don't happen......I'm puzzled and frustrated after wasting some considerable time trying to return things to normal.....I even shut down the PC , then restarted but things remain the same. Create a layer, prepare it for the chosen adjustment but the brush doesn't have any effect at all.....I can only think that I have inadvertently pressed a control without realising or knowing what it might be. I have a set of pics t process, and have been all day so far attempting to cure the problem: Can anyone help or advise please.? The way I use layers and brushes has been my preferred method for three or more years now after having tuition . CHEERS! FUJI Tearing his hair out!
  10. Everyone knows that I really don't like milky waterfalls or seas........I also audibly GROAN if I see yet another shot of that single tree on the rock pavement on't Moors.......Oh! Yes, and that causeway on Lake Windermere?........Vehicle Light Trails......and....and........... FUJI
  11. Annie.........Please don't give up.....it isn't that difficult, just fiddly, get good results......and you are hooked. My advice is before you send money on expensive rigs or getting your vest in a twist.............Do this.... 1: Camera on tripod, .....macro (or RAYNOX) lens fitted........camera set to f16 s160 .......flash on....use hot shoe flash if you have one......diffuse the flash with paper towel to avoid flare........ENSURE CAMERA IS ON MANUAL FOCUS. 2: Use a stationary subject such as an interesting flower bud, or a seed case cut open to reveal the seeds.......ensure a good plain background. 3: Compose your shot then focus your lens on the point nearest to camera........take a shot to test settings....adjust camera delete shot it if all is well. 4: Focus on point nearest to camera, take first shot taking great care not to kick the tripod leg...wind the focus ring to achieve focus a little further down ....take a shot.......repeat this moving the focus for each shot.......take at least six frames for a start. 5: Have more than one go until you feel happy.........then have a cup of coffee or a brandy. 6: At the computer, load the frames into your Stacking Software and let it do its stuff.........choose the best set........YOU WILL BE AMAZED!........I promise. Results by this evening please. FUJI
  12. I only use JPEGS for posting to Forums or emails. Otherwise I work on TIFFS OR PSDs........my CS3 doesn't take SONY RAWS straight from camera, so I have to use Photoshop DNG Converter and use DNGs fir processing then they are saved as PSDs......if that makes sense? FUJI
  13. Amongst my many collections, I have over 400 half late glass negatives and an equal number of glass lantern slides, most over 100 years old now.........I made a swap with an old house clearance dealer back in 1966 ......all those photographs in mahogany boxes in exchange for a few bits and pieces :-) I have stored them in the dry since......a few slides show signs of a fungus between glasses, the negatives appear to be good with little or no fading.........there is a whole variety of subject matter.....my local County Records Office took contact prints from most of the negatives.......the collection is named after me. It was quite an expensive process so they were only able to give me a few printed samples.....they are of amazing quality......I must try to remember to scan a couple so you can see. I would live someone to take them on as a project.......I don't want to break the collection up.....I ave researched the original photographer and his family. FUJI
  14. Hey James......A VERY warm welcome back to the fold......you were a young whippersnapper of a 6th former not that long ago.........Can't wait to see what you can teach us......lots of pics please. FUJI
  15. HI, Phil........Member Bill is one of our long term and expert Lightroom users.....................I have it ,but hardly use it.......perhaps I should give it another chance? FUJI
  16. It's my ......Magic Processing.......done through my brand new supersharp eyes Kate ;-) FUJI
  17. Dave.......My son is a travelling Fairs researcher and historian........he too has hundreds of photographs, slides, negatives and prints..........he is very serious about the way he digitally stores all of his scans. He alway buys top quality CDrs and then reads all the latest research in archiving digital images........a good idea might be to talk to one of our National Museums......they too must have to consider the consequences of age on ALL and ANY records.
