  1. Over the last couple of years or so I've looked at it and thought I'll never master that... I still have a way to go but it's a start. I understood from the weather forecast that rain was due today so I didn't go out as planned (it hasn't rained) I was bored and on impulse I started messing about with stacking... that's about it really. I will try something from outdoors in due course, but I'm not looking forward to lugging a tripod much, I hardly ever use it for photography... it's mostly used with a telescope when I'm birding.
  2. The finished image.
  3. Although I've had Combine ZP on my computer for at least two years I've never actually tried stacking before today. Unfortunately I only had a scruffy £20 note so take no notice of the creases. I took four shots of the note which was on my kitchen worktop, the camera was on a tripod with the camera pointing down at about 45 deg. I'm reasonably happy with my first attempt but things will surely get better with practice. Doing this indoors is one thing, I'm not sure about when I'm out taking insects though. I suppose if it's calm and I find some creature that is happy to stay still it might be OK, I'll just have to give it a go and see how I get on. How steady does one have to be to get a result when taking the shots hand held? The finished image.

WOW... I'm gobsmacked... I've only had POTW twice before... thank you Richard.
  5. I have tried that and I will be taking some test shots of a nice blue sky next time we have one. Blowing the sensor is a bit hit and miss I reckon, the dust is still remains in the area occupied by the sensor, it's about time someone invented a tiny vacuum cleaner with a very soft brush that could be very gently passed over the sensor , that would ensure the dust was properly removed and not just moved to somewhere else inside the camera.
  6. I only cleaned the sensor on my Canon in April and I've noticed a few more dust spots again, it's so annoying as I always have the lens I'm changing to ready and change as quick as possible keeping the camera pointing down. I just have to get myself in the right frame of mind to do a sensor clean and I hate doing it. Something to be said for ultra zooms
  7. I've no idea what they are, but they sure are pretty.
  8. Where is the best place to sell photos online, I was just plain lucky the buyer came out of the blue as the photo wasn't even on a site for selling, it was on the hosting site I use to link my photos here. I would like to find somewhere to see if I could sell images, I just haven't gone down that road yet.
  9. About 3 years ago I was paid £80.00 by Coast Magazine, they were doing a feature on the Gower in South Wales and the photo editor of the magazine spotted one of my images of Port Eynon beach on my PBase hosting site.
  10. I just cannot get on with looking through the viewfinder when wearing my specs and the adjustment wheel comes up against the stop when viewing without my specs. The only solution was to purchase a +2 diopter correction lens that clips over the viewfinder, this then puts the adjuster wheel in the centre of it's range. I just have to hold my specs in my left hand when taking shots. I can't get on looking through my binoculars when wearing specs either but that's not a problem as I can focus them OK again holding my specs in my left hand.

  12. Correction it's not a Feral Pigeon, it's got a ring on it's leg... Oh dear.
  13. Tina... I'm pretty sure they are all flying now. I just watched another Feral Pigeon bite the dust.
  14. ...................... for the price of one. http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/video/2013/jun/12/kitten-two-faces-oregon-video
  15. I've just spent 20 minutes watching one of the young Peregrines on the ledge and it eventually took off... that's the first time I've seen one fly.
  16. One Peregrine on the ledge at 08.50am having breakfast... too far away to see if it's a young one or not.
  17. Two hatched on April 29th and the third on April 30th, fledge time can be between 38 and 44 days... it's now 43 days since the first two hatched, so I'm thinking they have left the nest site. They may return to roost but I wouldn't bet on it. Peregrines that are born in an urban environment are the most vulnerable to death in the first two or three days, when taking their first flights they often try to return to the nest and lose height and end up crashing into the building. Those that are born in nests on cliff faces stand a better chance as there is always somewhere to land if the lose height... there are always ledges on which to land unlike the vertical walls of a building.
  18. They say regular updates... but they hardly ever bother.
  19. Same here... maybe they have flown and we missed it... damn.

    Brilliant... well done annie!
  21. I have just been watching the young Peregrine Falcons, the one I think is the male has just run right to the far end of that ledge and disappeared around the corning, when running he was flapping his wings and taking off several inches from the ledge.
  22. Terry... if it's the screen on your 60D you don't have to worry as I'm fairly sure it's glass not plastic. If I'm wrong whatever the screen is made of is hard, I've had my 60D for 17 months and no scratches... I clean mine with the moist tissues that I clean my specs with.
  23. I can remember my mother using ration books at the grocers shop and I can still picture the shop. It had one of those gadgets that the money was put in and then send whizzing to the cashier on an overhead wire. Then the change was sent back by the same method...
  24. If it hadn't been for what looks like old flaking paint I would have said an horse shoe as well. After thought... it may be an horse shoe that had been fixed on a door at some time and been painted along with the door.
