  1. Hey James, thought I'd offer my take on this. This shot communicates on a number of levels. It can be interpreted in various ways. Aside from being visually appealing, it's definitely a think-piece, maybe speaking to the human condition. Much enjoyed.
  2. Hey do you know how to shrink this image down? I really don't care for it at this size (I don't mean pixels, I mean visually on the screen).
  3. Really what you would guess from its appearance - "The Bakehouse" was a fairly popular restaurant in a small urban center close to me. It has since closed and fallen into disrepair.
  4. I'll watch for your future posts, While I have you, can you tell me how to shrink down a file to post? I've exceeded the cap and I don't know what to do about it.
  5. I'm based in western Canada so sadly I haven't had a lot of exposure to rail systems - we tend to just drive everywhere. We have one that runs across Canada and I think another that takes us down into the states. I can see the attraction. There's something very romantic about this form of travel.
  6. So many train shots in this forum 'ello Rye! I actually think the apparatus above the train makes this piece. The proportions of the vehicle are spot on. I love the human element - if I could steal your camera and go back in time I'd wait for more people, but this works just fine. Humanity highlights the imposition of the train, I think. Looking forward to seeing more of yours.
  7. Name's Matthew. I'm new to photography but I'm really enjoying it. Looking forward to learning here. Also, I'm only shooting in black and white right now so I'll be lurking around the monochrome section
  8. Hello again Monomania! This is too dark for me - I feel like I'm missing out on the shot. What I can see is great - particularly the upper right building being lit while the rest remain in darkness. Symbolic? Maybe a reference to the lives of the people below? I like this.
  9. Hello Monomania! With no formal background in photography and not a lot of practice I'm hesitant to think I'll be of much use to you, but I'll try anyhow. Obviously every component of the shot contributes to the overall form, but in particular I think your decision to include the shadowed roadway in front was key. Without it the frontier of the building and protruding walkways might have come across as overbearing. I love the way the light falls throughout. I'm wondering if the buildings to the left in the distance can be brought into greater clarity (can that be done?) as the shot seems (to me) to be inviting the viewer to go in that direction. I cannot fault your choices to include and not include - very much enjoyed this. I hope this response has been helpful.
