Correction: my new laptop is a HP. The shop I purchased from said they were moving away from selling desktops as laptops were just as powerful and more portable.

Thanks BP and Fuji. I ended up purchasing a Dell laptop with a solid state drive. I decided on the laptop - over a desktop - on the advice of the salesperson with expertise in processing large files. Plan to connect it to the 27 monitor I forked out for 6 mths ago. I'll set it up and see about calibrating it.

Thanks heaps, BP. I was thinking along these lines so it really helpful to have you confirming what I've picked up from reading reviews. Only one question, what a profiler thingy?

Thanks for the encouragement. I just ordered one on eBay. See how I go. Don't think I'm "cack handed" (though not sure what that means). Is that like being clumsy?

Any suggestions on buying a desktop PC for photo editing for under $1000 AU?

Thanks for the advice about sensor cleaning. My Nikon 7100 seems to have a spot. I'd been reading about DYI cleaning but was worried about causing harm. Think I'll have a go.

Congrats from me also, Chris.

Great topic. Thought we'd get some images of people who had consumed too much alcohol: a very common scene in Australia. Maybe not so common in the UK?

Thank you everyone for participating and especially Phil for helping set up the tie-breaker. Guess that means I need to choose another theme......

Oh dear, so sorry Polly. I just didn't see your image at the bottom. I've added you now. Probably broke a rule doing that, did I?

Thank you everyone. Wondering about my image posted on the front page - seems to have the wrong name.

I'm thrilled to win the weekly challenge with my entry "Boy in Doorway, Vietnam". A first for me. Thank you for the competition.

The theme: the beauty in decay called images that depict the beauty in that which is decrepit, decaying, broken, old, rusty........think the Japanese call it Wabi Sabi.

Im intrigued how you created the soft focus of this one: outside petals look translucent sort of.
