  1. Yes, it was great to meet you both, and a great day out on the Farne Islands.
  2. I suppose it all depends on what you are doing, as a web developer, if I install a program that I'm going to use I want that icon on the desktop or accessible from that start menu under a folder based on the developer. I dont want to have to switch screens then search for it, it should just be there.Seems like they've made it mobile/tablet usable, for people accessing Facebook, twitter, email and all those other social network stuff, but forget about the poor sods who have to try and use it in a business environment, Yes I know I can use the File Explorer and look in program files than create a desktop icon.
  3. I've brought everything, as I wasn't sure what I need. I'm probably gonna be up again early to take a walk along the riverbank. I saw lots of birds on the river.
  4. I'm officially in holiday mode, everything packed and ready to go, though it's look more like I'm about to leave on a 6 month world tour rather than 6 days. I've got my Lowepro Flipside 400, which has got the sigma 150-600, Canon 100mm Macro, Canon 18-55mm, Canon 24-105mm L, 6 x 16gb memory cards, 3 fully charged batteries, the Canon 12 and 25 extension tubes, plus a whole bunch of other bits and pieces and filters, 2 tripods, a small Canon gadget bag with my Canon film camera, some films, a 75-300mm lens and the Venus. There's a bag with my laptop and a whole bunch of chargers for camera batteries, mp3 player, phone and the laptop. Also got a mobile broadband dongle thingy.... An early start for me - 5am O_O, as I plan to be in Jedburgh before 9:00am for a visit to the abbey
  5. Well, I've made a badge so at least you'll be able to recognise me - hopefully.....
  6. Yes, I remember Cobol, Fortan, Algol and Pascal.
  7. I'd forgoten about Win 2000, I still have a working pc that has Win 2000 Pro on it. Yes, 3.11 was for workgroups.
  8. I first started out with windows 3.11, then 95, 98 and XP Pro - which is still on the 2 workstations I use everyday. I have one workstation that has Vista on. I've not used Win 7. I think the biggest difference I've noticed is that windows 8.1 is far too heavily weighted to using touch screens and devices rather than keyboard/mouse. Let's hope Win 10 is an improvement - which from what I've read is returning to a more Win 7 look.
  9. Bought myself a new laptop today, after about a zillion updates and many, many, many restarts and many, many , many hours later installing all the programes, I finally got a look at Windows 8.1. It's quite a bit different from Windows XP, and to be honest it's a bit weird, what's with the start button, that takes you to those tiles. I had to google to find out where all the program list was.... not very god for productivity having to switch from the normal desktop to those tiles just to find a list of programs you've got installed.. why isn't it on the desktop?
  10. Lets hope it's not to cloudy. We still need to sort out a time and place to meet.
  11. Do these things do away with the need for Dropbox, or any other cloud based back-ups out there? The short answer is yes - according to the WDMyCloud website. Basically the MyCloud is a network attached storage device, it connects directly to the router (which are usually always switched on all the time), either wired or wireless. As it has a cpu and memory its capable of running software. From a quick scan of the user manual, one of the programs would be some sort of dynamic dns software client that runs on the MyCloud, similiar to DynDNS or NoIP. Access to the MyCloud remotely is done via a web page at WDMyCloud . com, once logined the drive shared and public folders that have been setup should be visible. There is another version of the MyCloud called the MyCloud Mirror, which are set up as raid arrays that are copies of each other. So the 8tb one would have 2 x 4tb drives total 8tb, however as they are setup by default as Raid 1, you would only see 4tb with the other drive being a mirror copy, so if one drive failed the other would still have all your files.
  12. Yes, I've just checked the BBC, it forecates light rain at 7am, followed by thick cloud then light cloud, so likely to be a bit gloomy on the islands, also quite windy 16-17mph and not very warm at 11°. The weather gods did promise no rain, should have asked for clear skies and no wind as well.
  13. I've thought about joining a camera club, weirdly though my 2 local town clubs, don't actually meet in the town they're named after, Acrington's Camera Club meets in Rishton (part of Blackburn) and Blackburn's meets in Samlesbury.
  14. So predicted forecast for Sat (Weather .co uk, Met Office) Sat 13. Jun: Cloudy - 11° High - Chance of Rain: 20% - Wind: NNE at 17 mph Overcast - 10° High (feels like 7°) - Chance of Rain: 10% - Wind: NE at 16 mph Of course it could all change by Sat.
  15. I was thinking off arriving at about that time to Geoff, it's gonna get confusing as I'm also called Geoff.. Anyway we need to pin down a time and place to meet.
  16. Yep, I'm all booked on the Inner Farne trip. There's a couple of coffee shops (according to Google maps anyway) Rosemarys and Koffee & Kreme, we could meet outside there. I thought I'd make a badge to pin on me we TIPF and my screen name. What time?

    POTW - w/e 7/6/15

Yep, conrats Paul, lovely blue eyes, I'm often surprised when I see them in dogs.
  18. A couple of big big umbreallas and a camera storm jacket.... never photographed in the rain before, but I'd imagine you get a different sort of shot. I've appealed to the weather gods, it worked when I went with Leon to Ingleton... Coffee shop, there cam't be that many of them, I was thinking TIPF Badges to help recognise each other..
  19. The Inner Farne boat trip at midday is fine with me.
  20. Actually, I might bring the Venus lens, maybe we could have a 30 minute challenge and see what we got. I don't mind bringing it, if you've got a Canon camera it will fit. It is maually everything, though....

    FIFA

I never got the sport gene either, when I was at school, in winter we had a choice of football or cross country running, in summer it was a choice between cricket or cross country running. I was rubbish at cross country running, but worse still, I had even less talent at football or cricket, which meant I always ended up doing the cross counrty running - I hated that almost as much as football or cricket, but it was a case of the lesser of two weevils.... I'll get my coat....
