Nikon D3200

Recommended Posts

Mrs John has mentioned alot recently that she would like to start snapping with me, so i have purchased at quite a reasonable price a new Nikon D3200 for her as a gift for christmas, its all wrapped up and sat under the tree now but i was just wondering if the lenses that i already own for my good old Nikon D80 would fit and work on the D3200???

They need a built in motor - AF-S/SWM to auto focus on that body but even without they will work exposure wise with manual focus.

Check each lens:

If it is MF you're buggered - no AF and no metering at all......lick your finger - stick it into the wind and guess.

If it AF and has an aperture ring - its manual focus with that body but will meter.

If there is no aperture ring you can pretty much guaranty it will work......there are a tiny few exceptions but I'll wager you won't have one of them.

'G' just means there is no aperture ring but does't mean it will have a built in  motor.

'D' just means it has a distance chip in it - lots of older AF lenses without a motor and ALL modern AF-S lenses have this so not a good indicator.

Upon reading that back to myself i can see that it sounded a little bit wrong, Hahahaha..

I use the lenses from my Nikon  D60 and D3000 on my D3200.

I have also used a lens with a D42 fitting + adapter, but no Auto focus with that and I'm not very good with manual focusing.

I think your wife will be thrilled with the D3200 though.

I think she'll like it alot, looking forward to going out together and teaching her the little bit of knowledge i have..

No no no... I can take the D3200 off your hands and pass on my elderly D3000...you know it makes sense ;)

Haha Denis, you'll have to fight her for it!!
