Yorkshire Slate

Recommended Posts

Been so busy of late, and I have a very sore leg too (as well as the wife's broken ankle to tend to still) and with their being in general, a paucity of macro subjects, I have been looking through some old folders for photos of a relative.

However, I spotted this oldie, and gave it a new spin.

This is a small piece of Yorkshire Slate, picked up from Ingleton. It's only about 3 inches in size.

Hopefully, the inclusion of the white border helps create some depth to the stone itself, giving it a raised 3D effect.

What do you think?

I like ... though I'm not sure about the border? Lovely texture and colour though.

Slightly unfortunate phrasing above ....

An interesting concept Paul but I do think the white line is a little heavy and the frame a little tight on the left, but the 3D idea does work. if you are going to keep the border I would stretch the frame on the right hand-side and add some text about the stone, which would give the whole thing a purpose.

Thanks all for your thoughts.  :)

@ Colin, I can extend the background to create space, but to change the inner white band would be a pain to do now. The edge strokes would move out too if I increased the canvas.
