An early three part composite in which each element was taken within the space of an hour on Portland Bill. OK, it didn't work that well but I am one of those that can get a lot of personal pleasure from playing with images and I never take myself seriously when being a bit 'arty'

I love experimenters, the rule breakers and those whose creative minds enjoy creating from existing elements in photography and art, things don't always work out, but much pleasure and experience is gained by the experimentor .......and ......the eyes of the viewer may be opened so that they in turn are motivated to have a go themselves.

I have never tried this mixing of images, except perhaps in fun, but to me this works quite well.

More please.

You're right, Graham, it doesn't work too well as it is. But I can't help thinking it's the bird that causes it to fail - it'd be so much better for me without the gull.

I love the rocks and the lighthouse and the toning, though.

For me, the gull shot is the awesome element, but I'd prefer to see the original shot rather than this composite; I assume the gull was against a blank background?

Chris, the gull was skimming in over the cliff top to a piece of bread I had thrown for it so it had ground below it and sky behind it. I had an idea for the shot of a gull coming straight at the viewer and was in fact the first element taken. It took ages to get one flying towards me at a low height.

I then shot the lighthouse which has a group of buildings to the left as well as hundreds of tourists. As I walked around looking for a better angle with no distractions, I came across a small quarry like area where I shot the image for the rocks with a view to them being the ground area. Serendipity stepped in and enabled me to use it to cover the distracting buildings etc.

So the idea was there at the time but I really needed more, and better, gull shots. As this was the only one I got, I went with it just to stay faithful to the original concept.
