On a visit to Shap Abbey the rain hammered down all the way there. It eased off for a couple of minutes whilst I got a few shots then set in for the day!

I love the editing in this set...wonderful. I love the perspective of the last shot...(is that the right word)....but i'm finding it very hard to chose a fav..

The very same Annie! It used to be a very dangerous road to travel; lorries in bottom gear crawling up the long drag from Kendal to Shap, heavy loads coming thundering down the other way from the quarries with brakes smoking. On top of that there were cars with caravans mixed up with the every day traffic. Then they extended the motorway which used to finish at junction 35 northbound and put an end to the heavy A6 traffic.

Yup, my dad used to listen to those LP's whilst playing with his train set that ran right round the house.

I had the pleasure once of climbing shap in a Gardner powered ERF en route to Scotland, low gear up as Martyn says, heart in your mouth on the way down.
