LIFE'S A DRAG

Taking a lead from top photojournalist's Don Mc Cullin's recent video....(posted here the other day)....I have had my 28-100 SONY Macro lens on camera to see if I could emulate his....Street Photography techniques:

The lens isn't the easiest to get used to, because it works in reverse to the norm.......it is permanently at full zoom, then it extends the closer you get to your subject:

This was a very lucky shot......the chap had just snook out from a shop for a drag.....he was taking his first draw as I passed by; the macro lens allowing me to be further away than normal so he wasnt fazed.

I present two versions......the first put through my usual CS3 processing after mono conversio....the second, the same one given a slight TOPAZ filtering............Which do you like best?

Best viewd LARGE....Click on Pics:

firstly i love the image, he has a slightly dreamlike look in his eyes

the processing, the first one makes the image just slightly softer on the skin tones to me, this suits his dreamy expression but not neccessarly his facial hair and skin lines.

The second one looks slightly less surreal to me and shows his skin and hair details slightly better but doesnt suit his dreamy expression as well.

lastly i would like to say well done on your processing as there are only minute differences that i can see !
