Where to crop

This is one of the things I never know - trial and error seems to be the way for me. I think I'd take some foreground - so the line in the sand comes from the corner and then try various amounts of sky - possibly a letterbox type of format - might try losing the figure on the far left too

maybe a little to radical for some but i like the lonely photographer looking for a picture and feel the foreground and colour doesn't really do it for me so ...

I was tempted to push it almost into high key territory but not sure if you would like that

when deciding to crop an image i always look for the most unintersting part. in this case it would be the sky as it is grey/white and bland with no interest.

if i wasn't going to crop i would change it to b/w or sepia to try and add something.

I’m not sure that would always work, surely the bland empty sky adds depth and loneliness to the image of the photographer trying to find a picture in all the 'nothingness' ?

Yes Bill I Know (blush)

but it's not a job I would attempt myself and hopefully a friend has said he will take it into Edinburgh for me,I

would take it myself but don't know Edinburgh that well and a satnav is no use these days as the whole place is dug

up ready to

bury the trams

It's only frightening the first time or two.
