Oh sorry - it was a common enough photographic term in the 70s and 80s, but it's not one you hear a lot in the digital era for some reason. It simply means shooting against the light, and when done with water as a subject you get those lovely sparkling "silver" highlights. 

 

As you can see from this shot (many years ago now!), I was shooting into the sun - the shadows are a dead giveaway, as is the sparkle on the water.
