LR5 import RAW with camera settings?

When I import RAWs into LR5 from my camera, the first thumbnail it creates appears to have the characteristics as set by my camera for sharpness/saturation/contrast etc...this only lasts a second before the screen refreshes and shows me a nice flat, dull RAW.

 

What is LR doing here and can I get it to import RAW and immediately apply the in camera settings for sat/co/sharp etc...?

My understanding is that for RAW files you can't import the camera settings directly into Lightroom. You could develop a raw file to match a JPG of the same image (the settings are baked into the jpg), save the settings as a preset, set the preset to be applied to all files on import.
