What the heck is this?

Lots of these things sunning themselves this morning but I have no idea what they are. The nearest I can get is a melyrid beetle (soft-winged flower beetle) but that is an extremely tentative identification!

That's as near as I can get too. Never having seen one, Google images were more miss than hit tying to describe it for the search.

 

Either way, I want one. Post one in an envelope to me, lol...

I believe this is a Rove Beetle...the flightless orange and black Paederus Littoralis...

Great shot, Annie just beat me too it. I was going with Paederus Caligatus

You could be right Terry, they are very similar..

Thanks for the assistance folks, I think we'll have to settle for Paederus <something> There are apparently over a thousand species all very similar
