Taking this kind of shot with the Kit Lens on my little Panasonic GF1 isnt easy, but made just a little easier because our resident flock of Black Headed Gulls have little fear of humans so venture etremely close.....which makes capturing this kind of shot a very real challenge:

FOR FRIENDLY  DISCUSSION.......

I promised to post this........the original uncropped, unprocessed, very noisy original version of the fully processed, finished version above.

Just like I have an aversion to ...Milky Water.....I know that our Leon has an aversion to any post processing....

........You can see, that I did my best to frame the shot....In-Camera........my shutter pressing had to be spot on to capure, and freeze,  that split second of most happening......this was the direct cause of all that noise because my ISO was way up to capture the gorgeous light, whilst not to over expose that very white bird.

Had I posted this first, the noise and poor defintion would have grabbed the attention, insteadof my subject.

I am hoping that am am putting the case for considered and careful.......... Post-Processing..........it is essential if you are shooting in RAW, even if only for sharpening..............I admit to struggling with the Processing Beast.......learning how to do it is very rewarding.

The question is.......which version  do you prefer?

Rubbish! A shot like that would have grabbed the attention because of its composition and skill at capture - the noise would have been secondary by a long long way. Having said that, I much prefer your processed version, but that's to take nothing away from the original.
