Cat Flea.

I bought some  Acclaim household spray from vets UK as I was overrun with silverfish so it does the job with other insects which could be lurking  too. You only have to spray the house once a year.

The trouble is with cats, they will   go out and lay where other cats have lain and pick them up so easily.
I had one cat that the stuff you put on their necks just didn't work. Only Frontline sprayed on a rubber gloved hand and rubbed up her back used to get rid on them.

Thankfully ferrets very rarely get fleas and in the last 11 years that I have looked after many, I have never seen a flea on any of them.
When I adopted Evie (my little dog) a couple of months ago, she came with a vaccination for life plan and it also covers regular flea and worm treatment through the  year.

One of my cats liked to shelter in an old hutch and watch the world go by if it rained and we think that's where she picked them up.

She never got them when we used Frontline spray but the vet recommended using the dropper one because of her age and that the spray might affect her chest, and that's when she started picking them up.
I believe that the flea drops have improved a lot since then though.

The rescue used to paint the stray ferrets tics with Frontline and they just dropped off.
