Matera by night

One I came across this evening whilst trawling for inspiration.

This is a view across the old town of Matera in the region of Basilicata in southern Italy. The town is most famous for the cave dwellings that were slums until clearance in the 1950s, although now people have turned them into properly habitable dwellings. Those caves are carved out of the sides of a valley, but this view is of the old town on top of the valley wall.

This was taken by holding the camera on the top of a wall, pressing the shutter button and hoping. If I remember rightly the exposure was a number of seconds.

Camera : Canon EOS3000, Lens : Canon 35-80 (kit), Film : Kodak Gold 200.

Grrr - and there's me going through my photo library like there's no tomorrow, reducing blown highlights as if they were the spawn of Satan. And all the time, they are allowed!

Seriously though, it's a very attractive place and a lovely night shot.
