I am on this topic to tell you that I've been contacted by a client of mine, who is the exiled Crown Prince of Namibia. He had to leave the country in a great hurry and needs to access £6m worth of funds in a Swiss bank account. However, in order to authorise this, we need to have an account into which these funds can be paid and cleared in Britain. That's where you come in. If we use your bank account, the funds will be paid in, but after clearance we will leave £500,000 Sterling in the account to cover any inconvenience to yourself.

If you send me your full name, bank account sort code and account number, we will effect this transaction within the next 48 hours.

Yours faithfully...

If you get a suspicious email just Google the details on the Web and you will usually find a site telling you whether they are known scams or not.

Also there are alerting sites like this:-

By the way, if you go on dating sites be suspicious of matches that are too good to be true, especially if they are much younger than you and especially if from overseas. Always ask yourself "why me" and if you can't justify their interest steer clear. They may be flattering to your old ego in that you are still desirable to the young, but are usually the "send money" ones, probably eventually send me the fare to come over to you, but that's the last you will hear from them or see your money again.

But you've already seen a picture of the beautiful girl?  Yes but whose probably emailing you purporting to be her is in fact some Nigerian chap lifting photo's to send to you of a desirable woman off the web! Watch out for any that claim to be born in the UK but don't quite use phrases and construct sentences as we would, or string their words together as a native of the UK would.

I was told by a friend of a man she knew in his 50's that sent a few thousand pounds to his promised young wife to come over with her child to marry him. That was the last he heard of her or his money. They say there's no fool like an old fool, and when sex creeps in sense often goes out of the window!

If I don't know them, I delete them or click on the Spam button..

Sometimes I get one from my bank but if it's important the will write to me or I will talk to them in the actual bank.

Paypal have an email address to send spoof emails too, which can be found by logging into their site.

I've probably plagued my bank and building soc's by forwarding on to them perfectly respectable emails, on the grounds that I think they may be spam! I just address them to "phishing@bank_name" and they usually get through (I've not had a 'Delivery failure' yet...)
