Late last year I was looking for a replacement for my 50mm 1.8 lens and rather than get another, direct replacement, I went for the (then) new 40mm f2.8 STM lens.

 

I reasoned that since I didn't use the 50 at f1.8 more than a few times a year I wouldn't really miss the extra aperture so I went for the newer lens and it's much better built, although a bit difficult to manual focus. Auto focus is quick and precise and the picture quality really is amazing for a sub- £200 lens that isn't L series.

 

It's also small enough to just slip in my pocket in case I need it.

 

anyway.. to the picture... (shot with 5Dii, 580EXii flash with diffuser)

 

Shot one is the full frame, usual basic processing, levels, a bit of sharpening.

 

Shot two is a crop from the original raw file. no processing or resizing, just cropped down.

Canny little lens the 40 plus the STM makes it great for video.

Didn't even notice the little insect, until I looked at the cropped version! Nice.

How big were the Fungi in comparison to the insect.

The whole group was about 25-30cm across, so I'd estimate the bug at about 5-6mm

If you've got the uncropped version, maybe you could save a copy with the insect more in the frame as well.

The full uncropped picture is the first one and he is just about visible, but very small and not very clear at all.

It must be tiny. I can't even see it on the top one.Maybe move the crop over a bit so you could centralise the insect a bit more as it looks quite fascinating perched up there.

This is already all crop, so there's really no option to make it larger
