years ago a friend fell asleep with the chip pan on after a night out, sad thing was he chose the time the Fire Brigade were on strike, if it were not for the neighbours and the Army he'd have a widow and 3 fatherless kids!!

nope - we bought one of those Bosch Actfry thingybobs, works really well for all sorts of things and no chip fat smell

He was lucky as these things get out of hand so fast.

A house not far from us has been gutted by fire and even the adjoining house has some damage, so it just goes to show how quick a fire takes hold.

We do have a chip pan in the cupboard - used at least twice in the past 5 years, but not for chips!!

There was a major fire started in a rural area here quite a few years back, when a chip pan that had caught on fire was thrown out of a kitchen window. The house was not damaged, but the surrounding vegetation caught fire. Result 30 odd fire trucks, and two water dropping helicopters engaged to fight the fire, and a major higway closed for several hours. We did not get home from our workplace until midnight!!
