I need to pick your brains peoples.

I'm off in a couple of weeks, I want to capture some stunning views (preferably mountain views?), thing is though ill be off on my own, kids, wife not interested in walking for 6 hours so really I want somewhere within 100 miles of Manchester and once I get there somewhere no more than maybe 2 hours walk??

I personally would walk all day long but being less fit and more breakable at 37 , nowhere I may come to harm, imagine slipping with no phone signal??

suggestions please, Lakes. Peak district or maybe north Wales (it is good living in central England :)

Portmadog in North Wales is nice and you can go up mountains etc. on the little trains.
You can see Snowdon from there and also have some boats, harbour and sea/sand birds actually in Portmadog to shoot.
I am hoping to get a day there when we are on holiday. This time I will have my Nikon and long zoom with me.
The station is also very near to the town centre so you could go for a short train ride out or a drive in your car.

I can't help much more as I have only been to Scotland twice in the last two years.
You could Google it to see what it' like.

I would head for the lakes, but only if a nice broken cloudy, sunny day. not only views but tourists, old buildings, ruins, insects, boats, rock formations etc.

Geoff

have fun and don't forget to carry water and some snacks if you intend to be out for a good while.

in the good old days, when I was fit and petrol was still under quid per litre I used to travel around. I would look on the road atlas and pick somewhere I had never been before.

so off I would set, but, (isin't there always a but), I would pass a little country road and turn into it, see where it led and as it was off the beaten track was tempted by the thought as it was in the middle of nowhere then not many people would have photos of the area.

if there was nothing at the end of it I carried on or turned around and set off again onto my original destination point, or until I came across another little road/track.

sometimes I came home with a handful of shots, others times a full card.

the point of this little ramble is go where your eyes take you. you never know what's around the corner. you may be surprised at what you find.

I was the same Geodar, in the days of the Mini where I could fill the tank for £20 I used to point at a place and drive there,

now though it costs £60 for a tank of Petrol which does £300 miles, I really want a drive to Ullapool NE Scotland it will cost around £180 in fuel alone!!!

yep, needless to say my trips out now are few, may have a day out when i'm on holiday, if the weather holds. costly but don't do holidays abroad now so saved on that, and it is different than staying local all the time, need a change and a slight challenge.
