Nifty Fifty Part Two

Recommended Posts

A few more from yesterdays walk around Thornley Woods.

Best viewed large.

I've taken and posted a few very similar shots to this but I just love the effect:

The SMC Pentax-F 50mm f1.7 is a few years old - hails from the days of film - and has an 'old school' six bladed aperture which gives a very strong shape to the out of focus highlights.

Modern lenses have lots of blades that are rounded to give a softer more pleasing bokeh but I have to say the results can be fun:

You can get it to got soft, though the hexagon shapes are still visible, if you go close and really through the aperture wide open:

Wide open it is pretty sharp but has a 'glow' to the areas in focus, the top shot was taken stopped down a little to f2 at which point the lens is biting in sharp.
