Broadband Speed.

I just checked my broadband speed and I thought it would be interesting to find out how speeds vary across the country. Not fibre optic broadband though.

This was my speed at the last test.

WIFI at home: 6.5mbps

3G+ (whatever that is) at home: 14.7mbps

Do the speeds vary according to time of day?

 

does it really matter?  Unless iot is really slow?

Yes Fuji, if you surf the Web or download in the middle of the night it will be faster, the best time to use broadband is between 12am and 8am. if you do it when the "world and his wife" is online it will be slower.  A bit like driving a car in the rush hour to a destination compared to driving there at four in the morning.  See:-

Also surfing at weekends or weekdays at certain times will be different. For things like the Forum it does not make too much difference, but you notice it if you are downloading video's or software.

Going on the posts so far it looks like I have no reason to complain.

This looks about average for my speeds, it does creep towards 9mbps very late at night or very early morning when nee one else is about but 7 is normal.

We don't have the option for high speed broadband in Whitburn and checking the net the local exchange isn't even on the upgrade lists so no idea when we will get it - which is annoying because we have two computers, fours tablets, the iPhone, a smart TV, an internet radio and two Blue-ray players all capable of eating data from the router and I would happily pay extra for some serious SPEED!!!!

Fairly consistent at 12.6-12.8 download and 0.9-1.0 upload

 

It helps being in a small village with a telephone exchange right in the village. No fibre in prospect though, the exchange isn't even on the 'considering' list

 I tested various 'speed' websites last night all came up with a similar figure of between 8 & 9 mbps on all of them
