Cute Australian oddity

Recommended Posts

Ornithorhynchus anatinus (and no I don't know how you pronounce it!), rather a cute little thing

This was a challenge...   sunset at the bottom of a rather dark gorge, a river with lots of bits floating on it, no tripod and a critter that was much smaller than I expected (only about 40-50cm long)

I ended up at iso1600 using a fence as a support and then a long time spent cleaning up the surface of the water in photoshop.

EOD300D, Tamron 28-300@300mm  - iso1600 - f6.3 - 1/60s and a lot of luck

I'd love to go back with a longer faster lens and my current camera.

It was and I was :)

Taken at a viewing platform on the Broken River, Eungella NP, QLD.  That particular location is known for them but never guaranteed since, as you say, they are wild. I went back the next morning and evening... not a hint of a platypus.
