Moth ID request?

Spotted this thing resting on a leaf, and I've never seen anything like it, although I assume it's a moth.  Presumably the patches are camouflage.  It was about 15mm in length.

 

Anyone got a good moth book?

Seriously it does seem to cover the normal creepy crawlies 125 colour pics in a 4" x 3" book 1/4 of an inch thick  Pocket size Butterfies moths catterpillars dragon flies damsels spiders snails bugs bees fllies
