While I have been in Scotland I have been using a fairly new Sony 8GB micro SD with adaptor.

I have used it a few times before and all seemed ok, but since being here it has been taking shots and showing them ok, but when I switch the camera on again and take more shots, the previous shots won't display.

Thankfully I saved quite a few of the pics after each shoot onto my tablet, but there are still some missing.

It seems like each set is locked into It's own folder as when I click from one black section to another, it just comes up as " can't display this image."

I am now using a different card and everything is working perfectly.

I have an old free recovery program called "itech" which used to work well, but wondering if there is any way that I could recover the rest of the pics with Windows 10 when I get home, or can anyone recommend a good free program to do the job.

Any suggestions welcome, but can't afford expensive programs or to have them recovered professionally.

Thanks.

Thank a lot, BP. That's a great help, as I have some pics from my niece and great nieces joint birthday party on there. Close up of cake etc.

I wasn't sure whether I had accidently change a setting in the camera or not, but have only ever locked on card up, and that was when I removed it from a tablet, without unloading it properly.

That time, it opened up ok when I got home from my holidays and put it on the desktop PC.

I will ,make a note of the program.

I used a program called TestDisk to recover data from a hard drive that windows couldn't read, thought to be honest as it's a command line only inferface and has no GUI (Graphical User Interface), it's not that easy to use, but was able to recover a whole drive of data... of about 100gb..

I only mention it , as I used it too recover data on our server to recover all the websites, after one drive failed and copied all the corrupted Master Boot Table data to the RAID drive, meaning both wouldn't reboot......

Thank you RW,

I am thinking I got the name of the one that I had wrong in my first post, as the one that you mentioned sounds very familiar.
The one I have may be in a CD somewhere, but had hundreds of them, so if I can't find it online, I will try and search my discs, although it may be outddated by now.

If I remember, I used to click on the 32 fat and check the size of my disc.

I manaed to fget an evaluation version of card recovery, but not sure if it will let me save the files.
I left it running overnight just to see if it picked anything up, and so far it,s picked up 783 files.

I am wondering if I in-advertently picked uo the wrong Micro card and put in the adaptor as I'm almost sure that I haven't taken that many pics on the Sony one, but I will check them all if the pics that I want aren't on this one.

Thanks again.

  • 2 weeks later...

I managed to recover some of the pics, but most of the had bright coloured and white lines through. I am wondering if this could be that I may not have closed the battery compartment properly.

Either way whether it was a corrupt card or a mistake on my part,  I hope this will never happen to anyone else.

I got some lovely shots of the cake which haven't turned up at all, so hopefully the other person with a camera got some at some point.

This has never happened to me before, and although I am a bit dejected, I am so glad that it wasn't a fault with my Sony, as I seem to be reaching for it more than the Dslr now as it's more compact and I don't have to worry about carrying lenses. (That is when I get the time)
