Spring Photo Comp - Some pats on backs!

Recommended Posts

A few weeks ago I offered to help judge the photo comp by choosing a Highly Commended image. I thought it'd be easy as there'd be dozens of entries and all I'd need do was pick a good shot. I was wrong. There haven't been that many entries (you must all be well stocked on leather straps) and they've all been so bloody good that it's not been easy. However, here are my top two images and my reasons for choosing 'em.

Bill - Death on the Beach - Runner Up

This is such a simple image that it's easy to overlook just what a well crafted piece of photography it is. The toning is perfect for the image, the drama is added to by that angry sky and the main focus of the photograph (the deceased crab) gives the whole image a lovely, sweet sadness.

Great work as always, Bill - you win a very large bucket of kudos, a weekend in Yorkshire photographing petrol stations and a thirty-second sniff of Fuji's camera strap.

Clicker - Old Dutch Master - Highly Commended

I really love the texture(s) added to this - the image has taken on a real arty feel and just shouts 'quality'. The arrangement, the lighting, the processing and the presentation are all excellent and I therefore award the following.....

A super piece of work, Clicker - you win a small bucket of kudos, a week in Yorkshire photographing petrol stations and a two-minute sniff of Fuji's camera strap.

Everyone else wins nothing at all - but you all get a big THANK YOU for entering and a promise that you won't have to sniff anything belonging to Fuji.

I think you 'll find them on the original locked thread Chris .

.Thank you Korks for the HC ...and congrats to Bill as Runner up with his Demise of a crab... a superb  study .

For my Old Dutch Master  pic I picked up the vase for £1.50 at the local charity shop, aerranged some fresh and some silk flowers in it ....  plonked it in front of a newly painted wall, lit it with the torch from my iPhone and added two layers of canvas and oil painting texture  downloaded from  the net ...  Thanks  for the small bucket of Kudos  ... I'll use it instead of a vase next time .... well it'll  save me 30 bob !
