The lady and the rose

I just thought I would share one of the images I did for my finals at Uni. I did a thesis in the second year on pre-raphelite art and its influence on photography and advertising and for my finals I felt like doing a sort of project based on pre-raphelite painting and photography. I did a series of six images of my friend Emma taken in studio and then a background taken at Liverpool castle near rivington and combined them with some brushes I had. I paid over 200 quid for specialist inks from OCP and canvas paper impregnated with silver halide shreds and then printed them with my pixma 100 pro. I then had them professionally mounted. all in all over 600 quid costs.

That £600 was well spent because the results are ....STUNNING!

A very beautiful demonstration of Photographic Art via the Magic Art of expert processing, printing and presentation.

I remember being taken aback by the sheer quality of printing and presentation of photographs at the V&A Museum because the very best of display materials had been used....the same with a recent Photography exhibition in The Herbert Art Gallery and Museum in Coventry.

I can't get results like that myself, but have paid good money, for the professional mono printing of my very best work.....mainly portraits.

it might sound dear spending 600 quid Fuzzy but it was for me an investment in a future I thought I might have. When you do a degree, those finals are the topping to your course. the first tow years are just fillers. Its what you do for your final year that gets you- or looses you that degree. I was told in 1992 that by now I would be in a wheelchair because of my spinal injuries and two car accidents later I thought that was going to happen because the injury started to get worse. I had always had it on my bucket list to do a degree but in my younger days, other pastimes took my time such as going out and girls LOL.   It became clear to me that I needed to do something before my legs went from under me and I applied for a degree at St Helens. At the time, I had been doing photography at college and my portfolio was in for assessment and so I had no material to take with me other than my on-line website which contained all my work. The person I saw there told me I had no talent, I had no skills, I was deluded if I thought I was a photographer andif I ever thought I could be good enough for a degree I would be trying to punch above my weight and I would not last a week and that I should forget abut it and settle for taking snaps.   I went home broken hearted and put my gear on ebay to sell but my friend saw it for sale and tore me a new ass-hole and made me take it off. She then went though the options and I reapplied though the university system and got an interview at Bolton. cutting a long story short, met Jim Williams there, thought I made a complete hash of the interview but went home with a better frame of mind because Jim said I WAS a phototographer, I was worth something and even if I did not get the place I was worth a hell of a lot. Two weeks later I got a phone call at 6-30 in the morning. It was Jim Williams and I was waiting for the " I'm sorry to have to tell you this Kenny but...."    but instead got " Good morning Kenny. How's your day been? " to which I replied  "I don't know Jim, it hasn't started yet"   and he came back with the reply " It's about to get a whole lot better because I expect you to do great things this september. You have your place."

I dont mind telling you, I cried buckets and when I went to uni I was determined to to make that man proud of me and that's why I went the extra yard and did above what was expected and thats why at the end of the degree I wanted to go out with the best finals  I could.  In the end due to something I  may speak about one day I missed out on a first by 5%. I'm glad I did the degree then because now I dont think Id be fit enough to do one. If anything it made me realise that nobody should ever put you down. Nobody should ever say you cant do anything because all of us have amazing potential if we believe.

It was not a criticism my friend
You will get used to me I am from Yorkshire and anything over a couple of bob requires hours of intense ruminations followed by skillful surgery on my cheap Boyes wallet

BUT plus 1 for your positive ways it beats the hell out of the negative rubbish that this world kicks up

I didn't take offence at all Fuzzy and as for you being from Yorkshire... little secret. most of my mates live in Gods country and so I am adopted Yorkshire. I even got converted to Yorkshire Tea. My landscape buddy Sandra lives in Mucker in a most beautiful part of swaledale. The only bad thing about there is the sheep who hate me. I just wanted t explain why I paid so much for the images. Hoping to be going up to Scarbados in the summer to meet my friend who lives on the esplanade there. You just keep on saying what you say and enjoying Gods country :)

Why would Scousers make you adopted Yorkshire? :sofa:

Cracking inspirational story you told about your degree. Good on yer!

Herr Lumix  often needs that emoticon Kenny ... he quite regularly has to hide behind a sofa .....to dodge the bullets :2guns:

Great    to  read  your  story ... Beggars belief how much damage one self appointed individual can do  when power is abused ..Says a lot about  both you and your friend to keep believing  in yourself ..
