lens confusion..

Recommended Posts

Just discovered my 70-300 Sigma DG Macro will not autofocus on the new D5300.

As I am looking at adverts for a replacement, many are a tad confusing. When I find one that is reasonable it says not compatible with D5000 series Nikons. This is despite some online reviews stating they are suitable for the D5300. The D5300 has mo internal focusing motor, can anyone suggest a 300 mm lens that wont break the bank AND  that has a built in motor?

Depends on your budget.

Under £100:

Cheap as chips - decent quality - excellent macro for butterflies and insects:

Possibly a touch better optically but really not much in it:

The bee's knee's without going properly daft and spending your life's savings:

Thanks Robin

I just could not work out why the lens worked on the D3000 but not on the new D5300, nikon says both have no built in motor. If the lens I have has a motor, then it is not working on the new camera! are you aware of any issues with sigma lenses and the D5XXX range?
