Lighting for E- commerce site

Recommended Posts

I am looking for help / suggestions basically I need a small light set up for taking pictures of various products, locks window handle and fittings. Items are not really any larger than a shoe box size. All images are going to be used on an e-commerce site with the ability to zoom in on the object.

I have seen these on eBay, don't really need any huge lighting, wondered if any of you guys use any thing like this -

I got almost the same thing, a 90cm softcube with 3 lights for almost exactly the same reason Colin, I got the larger version as I knew I would need it for larger product shots. Pretty sure you can get the same 3 light setup with smaller softcubes.

I've found I've needed to increase the ev by +0.3 to +0.9 against a white background and decrease by -0.3 to -0.9 on dark backgrounds.

On small items, watch out for dust, while you can't see it through the view finder, you certainly can when you view the actual image - to be honest it can be simplier to start afresh and clean everything than cloning it all out.
