THE GYMNAST

About ten metres away from the steps up to Coventry Cathedral I noticed this chap, performing all kinds of Gymnastics on the Cathedral railings, I only had my SIGMA 30-2.8 ART lens with me so shot from where I was, then moved in closer for more action.

At this point he became aware of what I was doing and stopped.......I went to have a chat, and to tell hm that if he wanted a copy to email.....he then explained that he was a full-time Photography Student at Coventry University, in the City Centre......he had been doing the gymnastics to help strengthen a repaired broken wrist:

I bet the conversation carried on for a while after you discovered that he was studying photography.

At age 78, I don't think the University would  let me through its doors ?

I think I might have been able to give him a few tips on Street Photography though.

I don't see why not. I've certainly heard of people doing degrees in their 90's. The only criterion should be a desire to learn.

Like it. The mono suits the shot. I like the composition. The guys back running parallel with the steps and his body and his legs running between the diagonal rails really helps to balance this image. Captured in mid air is what makes it. The bag on the ground is a nice addition. It gives a sense of an unplanned act..
