Sensor Cleaning.....

Recommended Posts

Although I've only had my Lumix for about seven weeks, I seem to have some gunky stuff on the sensor. No idea what it is, but it's not dust as a blower does nothing. There's maybe 4 tiny blobs in total.

Has anyone any advice re cleaning?

Is it worth going down there DIY route?

Does a swab have to be the right size for the camera?

Recommends for cleaning kits?

All advice eagerly accepted!

What on earth have you been doing with your shiny new GX7  Korks?

Ive had mine for going on two years and not a dab on the sensor........been changing lenses after scoffing grilled sardines, chip butties or stuffed olives? ?

Seriously though, it is something I dread on any of my cameras.....I did go down the DIY swab route with my Sony once, but it is a scary process.....just make sure you get the compatible kit and follow directions to the letter.....alternatively, bite the bullet and go to your nearest camera shop, to have it done by those who know.

Steer clear of Greg Gawthorpe  at the garage.....he might say he can do it, but will use WD40 and Scouring Pads.....afterwards, you will take award winning abstracts, but not much else.

These are superb and p*ss easy to use: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B0046VBEE0/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1462554681&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=sensor+gel+stick&dpPl=1&dpID=31rmYJtUWdL&ref=plSrch

EDIT: There are no fluids to worry about - you don't wipe the sensor so you can't scratch it - you don't need a specific size - they last for ages and are safe to use daily - the refresh papers can be bought separately making them even better value. I spoke to the main chap at the Photo show who was kind enough to demo his product on my Fuji which was filthy, cleaned it a treat - my mate bought one and I've used it a few times.

Fooj - Usually, my kit is in pristine condition, but the GX7 seems to be jinxed. I even dropped it on some rocks on holiday!!!!

BP - That looks very promising, shall investigate further. Thanks!
