Kai's cheap camera challenge

I too watched this last night......

Yes! He does have great rapport with his subjects.......but pretty well all of them were close to the professional Fashion Industry, so we're used to that kind of attention.......I think myself or any other occasional togger would have been sent on our way.

The film crew and video camera would attract folks.

That doesn't detract from the great shots he produced with that tatty little camera.

He would be able to do that anywhere he went and regardless of the film crew being there. Watch when he approaches people, he doesn't really ask them if he can take their picture he just assumes they will say yes and is already hearing them into the shot he has in his mind.

I agree, no one gets a chance to say no, before they know it they are in position, posing and having their picture taken.

I'm sure I would be arrested for that......remember it is me who got chucked out of Coventry City Centre, just for carrying a camera with a long lens on, after shooting a couple of candids, then requesting a portrait from a passer by.......it wasn't she who reacted ( I had a great rapport and shot) it was the bloody ...Job's-Worth.....security staff, wearing all the police like kit who, attempted to escort me away.......As I said back then.....had I been David Bailey, or, the guy in the video......I would have been welcomed.

Not been back to Coventry since....two years ago now.......I might venture there this year, to test the water ?  Do you DARE me?

'Having done a fair bit of Street Portraiture where I request shots from complete strangers, I know just how inhibiting it can be, and how a pair of young females might react if I pushed myself like he did......I can almost hear the screams, and protest.

Yes! .....The photographer, has a very direct approach, but my comment stands, many of his subjects were in the fashion industry, just look at the way the first girls posed for him......he was also carrying his pro camera as he shot.....until the last moment his subjects didn't realise he was using the cheap one.

That doesn't detract from the sheer skill with which he, and others, taking the challenge use to acquire amazing results from the cheapest of cameras.

All excellent stuff!

Im dare you too Fuji!

and yes I do agree, if it was not London fashion week with people trying to get noticed it would be a lot more dificult.

now I'm almost a professional sales person (my trail period ends at the end of March) I am learning to find ways for people to interact with me straight away, otherwise I will not succeed.... a trip to Manchester on my todd is on the cards :)
